My Heart

by

Samantha Viles

My heart can bleed no more.
My friends ask how I am.
The answer is always fine.

I’ve had such a skewed view of life
Alienated many throughout my life.
Friendships lost or broken

I’d take it back if I could.
I’m trying to move forward
Even if it costs the ones closest to me.

I have survived by not living.
I hide away from others hoping
I can keep the pain buried deep enough.

The new year brings the change
To live the life I’ve been neglecting and
To heal the pain I have within.
