Saddened By The State of the World

by

Tawfeeq Elahi Samad

Everyday I watch with my eyes
The tears drop down innocent faces
Over here and there.

Everyday I listen with my ears
About the death and destruction of lives and livelihoods
Over here and there.

I feel like I’m going into a catatonic state
Unable to move
And unable to breath.

Unable to Forgive or Forget

by

Tawfeeq Elahi Samad

When the damage is done
And the seeds of hatred
Are planted in many minds
It is difficult to forgive.

An attack on your liberties
The strangulation of your dreams
And the burning of your hopes
Make it difficult to forget.
